In this article we highlight one of the most popular markets for international real estate investing in Central America. For many years it's been Costa Rica that has attracted all the attention but more recently it's been the tiny country of Belize that is gathering momentum by providing a distinctly Caribbean flavor to the region. Here are some of the reasons why more international property investors, retirees (and tourists) are paying more attention to Belize.
- It's the only English-speaking country in Central America. That makes life easier for people who aren't comfortable speaking in Spanish. Property contracts are in English as are all negotiations.
- Belize offers classic Caribbean style real estate but at prices that are far lower than the more established, the better-known and more mature Caribbean markets.
- The country has a stable political environment, the fixed exchange rate with the US dollar and a growing economy - most recently boosted by some oil finds in the Cayo district.
- The country has world-class tourism attractions making it attractive for investors looking for income generating vacation property. The great barrier reef that runs alongside the entire country is a UNESCO world heritage site. The diving is spectacular throughout the country but Belize also has lush jungles, rushing rivers and impressive Mayan ruins.
